The journalists claimed that Kiambu County political heat and leadership wrangles are as a result of tamed and poor reporting by the area press members who are being controlled by some prominent people thus reporting subjectively causing others to raise concerns.

Led by Samuel Musembi, a local radio correspondent in Matungulu and Yatta areas, the journalists said that their fellows have failed in reporting the Human interest issues like children’s rights violation and abuse.

Musembi said that some issues require collective responsibility stating that they expect to see journalists fight children abuse which in the recent days has risen in Kiambu where children are being defiled.

“We need to join hands in this fight and advocate for the rights of these young ones. We all have or planning to get children and so no one should torture a kid for no apparent reason, it is our mandate to report these issues in time,” said Musembi.

He added that Machakos County has numerous cases of children abuse both physical and sexual and they are doing their best to tame and reduce the challenge but blamed the different authorities like parents, court, police and administrative officers whom, according to him, compromise the cases and fail to report to the media.

The journalists were speaking in Matuu where they held a seminar with Plan International - an NGO that has been fighting for the children and women rights throughout Africa.

They agreed to engage into the fight as a group to make the society a better place to be for all human beings.
