A bodaboda operator has been arrested in Ndumberi after he was found in possession of a crude weapon.

Speaking from his office on Tuesday, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng’etich said that the man was arrested after he was found in possession of a machete.

The machete was found on the operator’s motorbike.

Ngetich said that this was a serious crime that was punishable by law.

The police boss explained that possessing crude weapons is against the law and cautioned area residents against carrying such weapons.

He added that security issues are meant to be handled by the police stating that residents should stop carrying crude weapons for protection purposes.

Ng’etich said that they had received reports of increased insecurity in Ndumberi and they had taken immediate action to curb the menace.

He mentioned that it was unlawful for the operators to take action by carrying crude weapons.

‘I want to warn bodaboda operators against carrying crude weapons as it is a serious offence. We are working on enhancing security in Ndumberi and we are assuring residents and also the bodaboda operators of their safety. When you report to us, we take action because it’s our duty to serve the people,” said Ngetich.

Martin Njung’e a bodaboda operator said that they were at risk since there was a rise in insecurity cases in the area.

He said that they carry such weapons so as to protect themselves in case they come across the criminals.
