Bodaboda operators in Kiambu County have vowed to maintain the bodaboda shades in the region following the recent vandalism of the shades. The bodaboda operators had a meeting today in Ndumberi at the chief’s camp where they addressed the matter after Deputy Governor Gerald Githinji addressed the issue. The bodaboda operators’ chairman, Francis Njoroge said that it was their responsibility to take care of the shades as the county government had done its part in providing the shades.
The chairman added that some operators had stopped using the shades and some food vendors had started selling food from the shades. Njoroge stated that discipline was key in ensuring the operators are able to maintain the shades as they were made to facilitate them.
However he mentioned that those abandoning the shades should stop as the only station they will be provided with is at the shades. “As a family, we are entitled to ensuring that these shades are well taken care. It is not the work of the police to maintain the shades. If you see someone who is not part of this business operating their business in the shades, you should stop them as these shades are here to help us. We should protect them from any sought of vandalism,” said Njoroge.
James Mwangi, a bodaboda operator, said that they are going to ensure that their shades are well maintained. He stated that the shades have been beneficial to their business and thanked the county government for recognising them and setting aside money to work on this project.
