The Kiambu County government has been urged to look into the interest of small traders especially bodaboda operators.
Patrick Muiruri, the chairman of Lusigetti Bodaboda Association says the county government has a responsibility to help bodaboda riders’ careers to take off.
“Kiambu bodaboda operators are faced with myriad of challenges and the county government should intervene to address the plights of riders,” said Muiruri.
Speaking on Tuesday at Lusigetti Shopping Center, Nachu Ward, Kikuyu constituency, Kiambu County, during the construction of two bodaboda sheds, Muiruri urged the county government to allocate more funds in the construction of bodaboda sheds.
Muiruri noted that the long rains have set in and the industry is likely to be faced with challenges.
“With enough sheds, riders will be able to conduct their businesses without interference of rains,” said Muiruri.
Muiruri also urged riders to update their driving skills by attending seminars.
“Bodaboda riders should update their driving skills to minimize road accidents,” said Muiruri.
He urged riders to comply with road regulations to avoid frequent harassment by law enforcers.
Riders should have all documents required in the bodaboda industry like licences and insurance covers to enable them to be eligible to operate,” said Muiruri.
Muiruri however warned the riders against involving themselves in disgracing acts like impregnating school girls.
“Incidences of bodaboda operators impregnating minors are a disgrace to this industry and this act should stop,” said Muiruri.
