According to Gathogo, establishing an elderly fund kitty will help elderly persons cater for their needs.

The lawmaker observed that most elderly persons in the constituency and the county at large were experiencing challenges in their old age.

Speaking when she met elderly persons at ‘Watu Wa Maana Children’s Home in Ruiru on Saturday, Gathogo said that it was important for the government to cater for the needs and also rights of elderly persons.

“There is need for the county government to consider establishing a special kitty or fund to cater for the needs of elderly persons across Kiambu,” she said.

The MP noted that the existing elderly fund that is being sponsored by national government is not sufficient to cater for all elderly persons.

She observed that most elderly persons don’t get the Sh2,000 monthly stipend that is given to elderly persons.

Gathogo said that she will push for the empowerment of elderly persons in the constituency.

“As leaders we must think of ways of helping the elderly members of the society since most of them have been neglected and cannot afford to meet their basic needs,” she said.

The Ruiru lawmaker asked leaders and locals to come together and support programmes that are aimed at empowering elderly persons.
