Speaking after touring several slums in Kiambu town on Wednesday, the senator said that the government should focus on improving the housing structures for the people.

He added that the county has enough funds, which should be channeled to development of modern housing units.

“I want to ask the government to ensure adequate funds are channeled towards proper housing especially in slums,” said Wamatangi.

The senator further asked the county to ensure slum dwellers have access to basic services such as proper medical heath care and supply of clean water.

He added that slum dwellers have a right to proper and affordable housing, saying that slums should not be existing at this time and age.

The senate lawmaker further asked the national government to fast-track slum eradication measures in line with Vision 2030 and other development goals.

“I want to also appeal to the national government to look at ways that will eradicate slums so that we can achieve vision 2030,” added Wamatangi.

He also urged residents to fight for their rights, saying that the constitution has given them power.

He said that leaders have to work and address the socio-economic challenges facing Kenyans instead of engaging in hatred politics and propaganda.

Wamatangi revealed that the senate will continue supporting laws and policies that are meant to improve the standards and welfare of Kenyans in line with devolution agenda.
