Kiambu women representative Ann Nyokabi has asked the county government to sponsor and award scholarships to needy but bright students in the county.
Speaking to students at Uthiru Primary School on Tuesday, Nyokabi said that sponsoring needy students’ will see them actualise their academic dreams.
She observed that most bright students in the county cannot afford school fees.
She added that the county government has the responsibility to ensure that needy but bright students continue with their education.
The women rep urged the county to establish a scholarship fund to help students who wish to further their studies.
Nyokabi said that Kiambu has the best brains and that it will be important for the government to nurture and grow them.
“We need more funds for the needy but bright students for them to actualise their dreams,” she said.
The women rep also asked the county government to come up with programmes that will improve performance in schools.
She said that education remains a key factor in development and that Kiambu county has some of the best schools and that their performance must be boosted.
The women rep also asked students to report cases where teachers’ harass or molest them.
She noted that most students are keeping quiet while their rights are being infringed.
Nyokabi said that cases of defilement are on the rise in schools. She asked the government to take necessary measures and protect the rights of students.
