The Senator who was speaking to residents in Thika on Wednesday said much of the help meant for Kiambu County is being diverted to other counties as the county is regarded as rich.

"Kiambu County require a lot of help especially in the education sector which we are asking the National Government to increase funding," said Wamatangi.

He noted that poverty in the area is also real.

"We have slums like Kiandutu here in Thika that need upgrading. People there are living in abject poverty but they are likely to be ignored if we continue buying the idea that the county is rich," the Senator added.

Wamatangi has also appealed to the State to increase the number of special schools for the disabled.

"The existing special schools are overstretched and we need to have more of them," he said.

He at the same time asked the youths to shun drugs.
