Kiambu County joined the rest of the word in celebrating the global hand washing day on Thursday in an event held in Juja town.

The event attended by hundreds of pupils from different schools in the region was graced by the Director of Public Health in the ministry of health Dr Kepha Ombacho on behalf of CS health. The event was presided over by Kiambu County Hand Washing Ambassador Gladys Chania.

In the event, pupils had a chance to wash their hands with clean water and hand washing soaps, which is rare among the society today.

Dr Ombacho called on schools to ensure they install their compounds with clean water to enable the children maintain cleanliness among them and also called for clean drinking water tanks to be installed.

Kiambu County, through a message read by  Chania on behalf of the county health executive Dr Jonah Mwangi, pledged to install water tanks in at least all public schools in the area which will not only be used to harvest rain water but also store drinking and hand washing water.

She said that the programme had commenced earlier this year with several schools receiving tanks from the county government which have so far helped them sustain the dry spell by using stored clean water.

She, however, campaigned for drug free schools as she has been in the frontline in fighting drugs in Kiambu region.
