Plans by the Kiambu County Assembly to build an official resident for the speaker has been withdrawn after the public protested.
Kiambu County Assembly Finance Committee Chairman Daniel Ngure on Wednesday tabled the County Fiscal Strategy Paper for 2018/2019 where Sh105 million had been set aside to construct the speaker’s house.
However, the county Speaker Stephen Ndichu on Thursday posted on his Facebook page pledging to repress the plan while apologizing for backing the county project before the public outcry forced him to withdraw his support for the same.
"The outcry of my people has been received and I express my regrets for apparently overlooking the misery that Kiambu people are undergoing. Our roads are in stale conditions, and patients are not getting proper treatment due to a shortage of drugs and equipment in the public health units. Under my watch, I will ensure the plan does not ensue," he said in a lengthy Facebook post.
Ndichu also concurred with the public that the MCA canteens and Members Lounge were of least significance currently.
“As much as MCAs canteens, Members lounge, and a Speaker’s home are developmental, they are not such a priority as at now. I am sorry for mistakenly giving precedence to more important matters" he added.
Kiambu residents got annoyed after it emerged that over Sh300 million in the financial year 2018/2019 would go to the two projects.
