Kiambu county deputy Governor Gerald Githinji has warned road contractors who do shoddy jobs that they will not be paid.
Speaking at Thika town on Tuesday, Githinji said that roads which were repaired recently are already in poor state which he said has inconvenienced traders and businessmen.
“We want to warn contractors who fail to perform on the agreed expectations that they will not receive anything from the government,” he said.
The county deputy governor said that contractors will be monitored and agreements of those that fail to perform will be revoked.
Githinji said that the county has spent a lot of money on roads and that contractors have no option but to ensure they deliver standard work.
The deputy governor further called on the Kenya Urban Rural Authority (KURA) to inspect roads being constructed to ensure they meet laid down standards.
He added that KURA has been given the mandate to ensure proper road network and that it should deal with rogue contractors.
Githinji said that various road projects have been commissioned across the county with the aim of making transport easy and affordable adding that the county is working with local and foreign investors to improve infrastructure in Kiambu.
The deputy governor added that plan to have all roads and streets in the county lit will be commissioned soon to enable business people to conduct business on 24 hour basis and also reduce crime rate.
Githinji however warned locals against vandalising the already installed infrastructure saying they risk arrest and prosecution.
He said it against the law for anyone to vandalise state property adding that a monitoring team has been set in place to guard against vandalism.
