Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on Monday received three compactor trucks, fire engine and a garbage truck from Fukuoka University delegation which will be used in the pilot project of the semi-aerobic landfill at Kang’ooki in Makongeni.
The donation which was given in collaboration with UN Habitat and JICA will see county officials undergo a specialized training on how to handle and operate the trucks.
"The pilot project seeks to establish early morning garbage collection system and once successful the donors will give the county more trucks to enable efficient waste management across the county," said Waititu who was accompanied by Environment Chief Officer John Muhia.
The landfill was launched in 2014 during former Governor William Kabogo's administration and is expected to be complete late this year or early next year.
Meanwhile, the Kiambu County Government has given high density water pipes worth Sh2 Million to facilitate installation of piped water to Dagoretti, Kabuthe, Kiawamagira, Upper Ndaire and Gati-Iguru areas.
"We have given the pipes to Kabuthe water project in the presence of Madam Jane from Kikuyu Water Company as well as the area M.C.A Hon. Henry Kagiri who has been pivotal in ensuring that the project becomes a success," Waititu said.
The governor also promised to ensure that a borehole is dug in Thogoto to curb water shortage in the area.
