Kiambu county government has reached its locally generated revenue target collection of Sh2.3 billion.
This is an increase of 109 percent from the Sh1.1 billion previously collected.
While addressing the county assembly during state of the county address, Governor William Kabogo also announced that the county has entered into a partnership with the Kenya Revenue Authority that will see KRA collect property rates on behalf of the county as well as recover money owed by defaulters.
He said the partnership entered through the department of finance and economic planning is aimed at improving the county government’s efficiency and effectiveness in collection of property rates hence improving service delivery to residents.
Kabogo also reported that the county has integrated ICT in their financial management system by installing an automated receipting and business intelligence system.
"Kiambu county now boasts of a self-help portal where our citizens can log in and request for services from the county and effect payments online. We have also eliminated all forms of manual payments, with all departments adopting the IFMIS and e-procurement systems with a view to further minimise tampering and fraud usually endemic in procurement processes," said Kabogo.
The county is also in the process of issuing residents with the visa-enabled Kiambu county cards, which will be used for various fee platforms such as matatu fare payment and online shopping, amongst others.
