Kiambu government has announced plans to construct low and affordable residential houses in the county.

This has been announced by Governor Ferdinand Waititu took through his Facebook.

"I have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Housing that will see the official commencement of the construction of low cost and affordable houses in Kiambu County," Waititu wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

The message came after Waititu attended the Urban Development, Housing, Infrastructure and Energy Sector Meeting that was held at Kakamega High School during the Devolution Conference. 

It is during this meeting where it was agreed that urbanization and infrastructural development can contribute towards affordable housing in Kenya.

Waititu affirmed that Kiambu is the third county to take this undertaking which is part of the National Governments Big 4 agendas.

He said he is committed to ensure all locals and expatriates in the county get access to cheap housing.

"Tenants will not be exploited once the affordable new houses are constructed. Landlords and land ladies should stop hiking rents abnormally to enrich themselves using shortcuts," he said.
