The County Government of Kiambu has now embarked on revival of the coffee sector that has been on the decline for the past few years.
According to the area Governor Ferdinand Waititu the move is targeting over 120,000 small scale farmers as well as putting strategies in place to ensure that large scale farmers get higher income from their yields.
Speaking in Ruiru on Monday when he met some coffee farmers, Waititu said that the county will start supplying farmers with manure among other inputs recommended by experts.
"We want to ensure that Kiambu County becomes the largest coffee producer just like many years ago and through that we will see our economy grow steadily.
"This we are going to achieve by giving out organic manure to farmers aiming to increase coffee production to 50 million kilos in two-year time," said Waititu
The governor addded that the county also has embarked on sourcing better markets for the products and called upon those who had destroyed their coffee trees to venture back into the farming as it will bring more income than any other cash crop in the area.
"According to the records the County used to produce double the coffee that it produces now and I would like to urge farmers not to sell their land and instead be ready to earn as I will tame land brokers from the county" said Waititu
