Kiambu County government will increase bursaries from current Sh 67million to Sh 90 million during the 2015/16 financial year to help bright but needy students’ access secondary education, county's Education minister has said.
Esther Ndirang'u said that the money would boost the education sector by benefiting the poor students who are unable to raise school fees.
“The county government is intending to increase the bursary kitty to Sh 90 million,” she said.
Speaking at Thika Town, Ndirang'u said that the county government is committed to providing affordable education to all Kiambu children.
“Kiambu government plans to make sure all children access secondary education with ease,” she added.
Ms Ndirang'u said that the kitty had benefited most students who had failed to raise school fees.
She added that the equal distribution of the bursaries would be allocated to the 12 Sub Counties.
Ms Ndirang'u noted that the excellent performance in the last year's KCPE results were motivated by dedicated staffs and said that there is need to improve the performance.
She further urged parents to fill bursaries forms promptly to ensure their children get the funds.
