Kiambu Cunty Government has been challenged to establish a special kitty for the disabled people in the region, mostly the already helplessly roaming in Thika town and other trading centre as they solicit for funds.

Speaking while donating wheelchairs at Joy Town School of disabled in Thika, a political activist Beatrice Mwangi asked the county government to legislate a bill which will by law recognize the disabled.

“Many street urchins are disabled and move out in streets in search of sustaining funds from well-wishers, these boys and girls have been neglected; remember that they have a future to hold on so let us help them by initiating a way to help them out,” she said.

She added that the disabled have a right to be involved in the service delivery programme, and advised that it can only be done through the county assembly, who have information of the whereabouts of disabled in their area.

Parents who neglect their children by virtue of being physically challenged were put on notice, and warned against forsaking their children which force them into the streets, saying it has contributed highly to increase of street families in towns.

The activist the county leadership to also consider building the disabled a home and a school that will be under their watch, citing that Kiambu has only two schools for the disabled.
