Kiambu Dairy Cooperative Chairman Peter Kimani has urged area farmers to embrace modern technologies to address food security.

Speaking on Saturday at Karuri Primary School, Banana Location during a farmers' field day Kimani said that the ever exploding population has forced farmers to shift from traditional to modern farming.

 He called for increased use of technologies to meet annual production.

“Farmers can achieve the target annual food production through use of modern technologies,” notes Kimani.

He observed that majority of Kiambu residents rely on agricultural-based activities and urged the county government to support agriculture fully by giving farmers funds.

“Kiambu County Government need to boost agriculture through provision of a funds that will cater for small scale farmers,” said Kimani .

Kiambu livestock officer James Mwangi said that the county government has initiated several initiatives to address the plight of farmers .

“The county government has put in place policies that support agricultural research and promoting technology delivery to small scale farmers,” said Mwangi.

Mwangi revealed that the county government has introduced Kilimo Biashara that seeks to increase production to farmers .

He also said that the county government is helping farmers access certified seeds to increase production and profits.

The one day show was attended by over 500 farmers from all Kiambu sub-counties.
