Kiambu Gender and Social Services Executive Esther Ndirangu want Persons Living With Disabilities (PWLD) to apply for development funds set aside by t he government.
Speaking at her office on Wednesday, Ndirangu complained that PLWD in the county are reluctant to seek services.
She pointed out that despite the government providing various opportunities for them, most of them are not ready to take.
“Persons with disabilities must come out and work with us, it is the only way through which their concerns will be listened to and addressed to,” she said.
The Executive said that various polices are being implemented in support of PLWD and that more funds will be set aside for their development.
The Executive also said that the county has incorporated persons with disabilities in it’s development and welfare committees.
Ndirangu urged PLWD to feel free and communicate their grievances saying the constitution agitates for the rights.
“PLWD should feel free and speak out on what they want done, no one will intimidate or discriminate against them,” she added.
Ndirangu affirmed the county’s commitment to promote the welfare and issues facing the disabled persons.
She revealed that plans are underway to start create awareness on the rights, freedoms and interests of PLWD across Kiambu.
The Executive at the same time asked the county assembly to pass laws that will cater for the interests of disabled persons.
