A Kiambu matatu driver was yesterday arraigned in a Kiambu law court for allegedly running over a 12-year-old girl along Kiambu road.
Antony Njue appeared before principal magistrate Diana Mochache and pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.
The prosecution told the court that on the 18th of May 2015 at around 6pm,the accused who drives a matatu KBK 345J that ply’s the Kiambu-Nairobi route was driving dangerously heading to town.
Mr.Njue then hit a 12-year-old Beth Njeri at bypass along Kiambu road as she was crossing the road. The accused then drove away knowing that he was on the wrong.
However members of the public tried to rush the 12-year-old to the hospital but it was too late as she died on her way to Kiambu District Hospital. An eye witness was able to write the number plate of the vehicle in his mobile phone of which he came and reported the incident at the Kiambu Police station.
Police launched investigation and started hunting for the vehicle that was involved in the crime. At 8p.m traffic police from Kiambu police station spotted the vehicle and arrested it. However the driver at that time was not the accused.
After interrogations the police were able to trace the accused that was already in his residence in Banana at that time. The Principal magistrate Diana Mochache adjourned the case for a hearing on the 10th June 2015.
