The Kiambu county Education Gender and Social Services executive member Mrs. Esther Ndirangu has encouraged the disabled students in the county to feel free and seek services from the government.
The executive affirmed that the government recognises the rights of disabled persons and has put in place appropriate policies to cater for their welfare.
She said that disabled persons have the same rights just as other residents and that the county will ensure that they are not in any way discriminated upon.
“We are very willing to support you just as we do with other residents so feel free to turn up to our offices and ask for help with issues such as education,” she said.
Speaking in Mount Kenya University on Saturday, Esther noted that plans are underway to increase the funds meant for the disabled people from Kshs. 80 million to Kshs. 120 million as their number has been rising day by day.
She further called on the disabled persons in the county to take advantage of the Uwezo, Enterprise and Biashara kitties as the county deliberates on other programmes to help empower them.
The Executive said that the funds are meant for women, youths and the disabled persons observing that some have already benefited from the Kitties.
