Kiambu County executive member of Agriculture, Dr Monica Waiganjo has challenged Kiambu farmers to invest in modern technologies in order to improve their output.
Speaking today at Kagwi Centre, Limuru Constituency, during a one-day farmers' field day, Waiganjo said that reliance on traditional skills in farming would retard farmers' output.
“Farmers should stop using traditional methods in farming and embrace modern technologies to increase farm output,” said Waiganjo.
Waiganjo said that the county government of kiambu has invested in agriculture and supported smallholder farmers since devolved units came into existence.
“Kiambu County has been improving agriculture to ensure Kiambu residents reap maximum benefits,” said Waiganjo.
She said that the county government has increased its budgets to drive agricultural transformation in the county.
“The county government of Kiambu has been committed to achieving targets such as doubling agricultural productivity, reducing post-harvest loss and increasing youth participation in the agri-business by 50%,” said Waiganjo.
She also said that the county government has initiated several polices to help Kiambu farmers.
“The county government has launched polices to accelerate growth in agriculture in a bid to create major avenues for reducing poverty and hunger,” said Waiganjo.
