University graduates from Kiambu County have appealed to the government to fulfil its promise of creating more job opportunities for the youth for them to contribute towards realisation of Vision 2030.
The graduates said there was need for the government to engage more energetic people in the economy so as to steer development agenda at a faster pace.
Speaking in Kiambu today, the graduates, led by Polyne Njeri, a Bachelor of Arts graduate from Kenyatta University, said the government should consider investing more in the youth for faster economic growth.
Njeri added that for a very long time graduates have been hunting for jobs without success and anytime they walked into any government offices they are told they lacked the experience required.
Most of the graduates faulted the industry for insisting on experience for them to get jobs wondering how they could get experience without getting exposed to job market.
“Of all the jobs I have seen advertised in the media, there is a minimum number of years that if you do not meet, then you do not qualify,” said Jenifer Injete a graduate.
The graduates lamented that they have not tasted the fruits of education as they have not secured any jobs that matched their academic qualifications.
A lecturer at one of the local universities, Sarah Njuguna advised the young people to stop being selective in their endeavours and be ready to undertake anything that comes by.
She says the market is now unique and only those who are ready to multi-task shall survive.
