Kiambu County Health Executive (CEC), Jonah Mwangi, has called on Kiambu residents to eat a balanced diet and avoid junk foods.

Speaking while he toured Thika Level Five Hospital on Saturday, Mwangi said that junk food results to poor health translating to short life span.

The minister expressed his concern with high cases of chabbiness and heart diseases in the county.

“I am urging residents to recheck what they consume since it affects their well being,” noted Mwangi.

He said he has noted that most parents are suffering from heart related illness.

“We have many children who are obese, courtesy of junk foods,” said Mwangi.

He cautioned residents against eating a lot of meat and fries. He instead advocated them to take more greens.

“Consuming a lot of meat related meals is not healthy. When you do that you destroy your immunity. Let us take a lot of fruits and greens; it will help in boosting our immunities,” he noted.

Mwangi warned parents against feeding their children with fries and sugary substance.

The health officer recommended that children should be given more of healthier foods to help them grow not only physically but also knowledge wise.

"I want to warn parents who spoil their children with fries that their are ruining their live," he said.

Mwangi also noted that most street foods are unhealthy.

He encouraged parents to give their children home made food.
