The number of deaths from Nginduri, Kiambu illicit brew incident on Tuesday has now risen to eight people.
According to Kiambu District Hospital acting Medical Superintendent Grace Achieng, the number rose after more people were brought in on Thursday with the same methanol intoxication issues.
"We are now treating around 15 people with the same methanol poisoning. Five more have died since Tuesday," Achieng said.
Following the incident, the Presidential Adviser on Agricultural matters Dr James Nyoro has asked all the stakeholders to join hands and end the vice.
Nyoro regretted that no one has been arrested yet in connection with the incidence when perpetrators are not very hard to identify.
"The government and the community have to play their part. There were many people who are aware these brewers and sellers but none has reported the matter so far," Nyoro said.
He added, “This is why the government is insisting on Nyumba Kumi so that you are able to know what your neighbour is doing."
Nyoro said that Kiambu's proximity to Nairobi puts it at a higher risk than other counties when it comes to illicit alcohol related incidents.
