Kiambu dairy farmers will benefit a great deal after the county government rolled out a programme that will enhance milk production.
The farmers will keep a new pedigree which will boost milk production where four more cooperatives will have coolers soon.
Speaking at Ndumberi Dairy Farmers Cooperative after delivering of a new milk cooler to farmers, Kiambu Deputy Governor James Nyoro said they have a kin plan to dairy farming and through collaboration with the national government, will change the society to be independent.
“We will ensure that we access pasteurized milk as the requirement by Kenya Dairy Board. At the same time, our county will work together with A.I to have subsidized semen to increase the population of heifers which will help us establish a big farm for breeding,” said Nyoro.
Nyoro, however, said they will propose a Bill in the county assembly to be mandatory for manufacturers and distributors of animals feeds in control of raw quality animal feeds which has been a major challenge to farmers.
He added that agriculture in Kiambu will receive 10% of the budget which will go to the docket of agriculture.
The chairman of the society Maina Kamau said the cooler will increase the capacity of their storage saying thru the support by county government they will increase they dairy production of over 13,000 litres of milk every day where about 55% of daily collection is valued added to pasteurized.
