Kiambu county has been identified as a possible election violence hot spot during 2017 general election.
An internal report at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission(NCIC) has identified Kiambu and other eighteen counties it has termed as "problematic and requires close monitoring," failure to which may lead to instability.
Other 'problematic' counties identified include Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Narok, Kericho, Kisii, Homabay, Isiolo, Turkana, Bungoma, Kilifi, Lamu, Migori, Baringo and Pokot.
NCIC Chairman Francis Ole Kaparo said his commission is laying down an elaborate operation plan including massive public education on peace during the general election.
The commission says it will work with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure cases on hate speech are thoroughly prosecuted.
"We will assign secret agents to follow, monitor and keep track of politicians' movements and utterances within the campaign period," said Kaparo on Monday.
Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been summoned to appear before a parliamentary committee over allegations made by Kiambu residents that he has sponsored a private militia and influenced police in his county to intimidate and harass area MPs.
The gubernatorial contest in Kiambu involving Kabogo and Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu is expected to be hotly contested.
