Prof Micheal Wainaina is among the presidential aspirants seeking to unseat President Uhuru Kenyatta in the forthcoming August 8 polls.

Born in Kiambu County on September 25, 1972, Wainaina graduated from Kenyatta University with Bachelors Degree in Education (English and Literature) in 1995.

Later he obtained from the same institution his Masters and PHD in 1999 and 2002 respectively.

The former KU don has denied allegations that he is being used to divide the vote in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Central Kenya stronghold.

“Those who are looking for tribal kingpins can go look for them elsewhere. I am not running as a Kikuyu but as a Kenyan,” he stated.

Using the slogan 'youthify and modernise Kenya', the aspirant who is vying as an independent candidate, said he has a vision which he calls new and transformative leadership.

“The intention of my campaign is to leapfrog the country to a developed nation. We have seen it being done in other nations and I believe we can do it here,” he insisted.

Wainaina expressed confidence of clinching the top seat, saying the reason everyone campaigns is to win.

“We the people of Kenya are in it to win because this is the future of our country, there is new blood, new thinking and we want to make Kenya youthful as the future lies in our youth,” he added.
