A medical officer in Kiambu town was today arraigned in a Kiambu Law Court for allegedly procuring an abortion in his clinic. The prosecution desk told the court that George Kimani was reported to have been procuring an abortion at his local clinic In Ndumberi on May 23, 2015
The accused is said to have been reported to the police by members of the public after he allegedly assisted a 19-year-old to procure an abortion.
Veronica Kaseke, who is the mother of the 19-year-old girl reported the incident at Kiambu Police Station after realising that her daughter had allegedly aborted a three months pregnancy at the accused clinic’s.
Kaseke knew that her daughter was pregnant and had asked her not to abort promising her that she would resume with her studies after giving birth.
The girl reportedly left home at around 8am on the material day and came back at around 10am but seemed very weak.
The girl is said to have had severe pains in her abdomen that made her mother suspect that she had aborted.
The mother demanded to be told where the service had been done and the girl reportedly confessed that she had procured the abortion at Kimani’s clinic.
The mother reported the incident to Kiambu Police station. The girl was taken to Kiambu District Hospital where she was attended to and a P3 form was issued to prove that she had aborted.
Kimani pleaded not guilty to the charges.
However the Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache adjourned the case and set a hearing for June 16, 2015.
Kimani was released on a Sh1 million cash bail.
