The Kikuyu MCA Binary Wainaina has urged men in the area to set a good example to the community by working towards development other than drinking from morning to evening. Addressing residents at the Kikuyu bus terminus today, the MCA said that some men in the area were setting a bad example to children by their daily activity.
He mentioned that such men do not go to work anymore but wake up and go to dens where they drink illicit brews. Wainaina added that such behaviour was a disgrace to the coming generation as many of the children do what they see from their parents. However he stated that such men should be working towards providing for their families other than spending the little they have for illicit brew.
The MCA further said that it was a shameful for such men who have neglected their family responsibilities hence living their women struggling with the children. “It is shameful for a man to wake up in the morning and all he thinks of is chang’aa, I want to challenge those who have such a tendency to focus on nation building by working and setting a good example even to the children,” said the MCA. Speaking to Arnold Njuguna a matatu driver said that a man’s main aim at the end of the day is to ensure his family has something to eat; he added that drinking shouldn’t be the first priority of a man. “I personally drink, but I do so after ensuring I have left enough for my family and I have saved some for my children’s education,” said Njuguna. However Stella Mwangia vegetable vendor condemned the act of alcoholism among men saying it was portraying a bad picture of the generation to come. He added that the same men are the ones who come beating up their children. She mentioned that some men end up not getting any respect from their children as they are a disgrace because of their conducts.
