Kiambu Sub-county public health officer Romano Kinyua has warned milk sellers transporting milk in plastic containers in the area risk being arrested and prosecuted.
Kinyua issued the warning while speaking to this reporter where he said that the containers are very unhygienic.
“The plastic containers could be a very possible way of food poisoning since washing them is very difficult. I am therefore placing this notice to all the milk sellers to make sure they change as fast as possible to be safe and also be within the law,” he added.
Kinyua added that they had implemented the law and the milk dealers adhered to them but of late the sellers have gone back to their old ways of transporting milk in plastic containers.
“Anyone transporting milk in the sub-county must use the recommended aluminium gallons as provided in the public health act. We will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found violating this law,” Kinyua warned.
The officer said there are plastic gallons which have been made and coloured like the aluminium ones but insisted the containers should be aluminium.
He said the move is in the interested of the residents who have to be protected from getting substandard products.
