Kiambu county mothers have been advised to breastfeed their children in order to foster faster growth and strengthening of their bones.
Madam Faith Mariana, a nurse at Githobokoni Dispensary noted on Tuesday morning that a number of mothers who take their infants to the clinics constantly inquire over whether breast feeding will affect the teeth of their children even though there is clearly no better nourishment for children under the age of two other than breast milk.
"Those who are endorsing goat’s milk as being better than a mother’s milk are wrong; mothers should make breastfeeding a habit to not only strengthen their muscles but to also foster their brain development," she said.
Mariana observed that the best persons who should be consulted on health matters are medics and advised them to ignore local myths.
"Mothers should be advised to only consult qualified persons like medics. If you rely on traditional misleading information on breastfeeding, you will come to regret it later. It’s wise to understand that only mother’s milk nutrients can favor growth of a child," she observed.
Faith further advised mothers to also embrace giving birth from the hospital to prevent risks that occur with delivery.
