Among the legislators who were reported to have never made their maiden speeches were Lari MP Johan Mburu and his Kabete counterpart James Wainaina popularly known as Kimani wa Macukuru.

Speaking during a morning show at a local vernacular TV station on Tuesday, a visibly agitated Mburu dismissed the report and accused the daily which published the list of malice and incompetence.

"It is so irresponsible for the People Daily to report that I have never spoken in the House. I have contributed at least five times and the proof is there," he said during an interview on Inooro TV.

Mburu said the media should first verify from the Hansard, where Parliament proceedings are recorded, before making such 'damned' allegations which he said have caused him a lot of trouble with his constituents.

"Most people from Lari are calling me asking why am I sleeping on the job but I have assured them I have done and won't stop doing what they sent me to Parliament to do," said Mburu.

He argued that being a first time MP,  it is difficult to get time to speak as priority is given to Majority and Minority Leaders, Whips, Committee Chairmen and senior legislators.
