Unemployment in Kiambu will now be a thing in the past after Kiambu government decided to offer free training courses for morticians in Chiromo Nairobi and calls for anyone who is interested to apply for the same.
This comes after establishment of the new morgue in Thika town which suffers from lack of trained personnel to handle the new equipment.
Speaking on Friday during the inaugural of the new General Kago road morgue, Kiambu Health Executive Jonah Mwangi said that the new morgue is suffering from lack of morticians and they wanted to employ new members for the funeral home to function effectively with decency.
He said that most general Kago staff members have been taken to various courses to handle the new equipment which he said was technical and wanted to employ new members who will be offered free training in Chiromo Nairobi.
“We have taken some of the employees for further training to handle the new equipment of the morgue which is abit technical and we will offer free training for morticians who are interested,” said Mwangiid.
The trained morticians will be working on the new funeral home and others be posted in Kiandutu Health centre for the new police morgue which construction plans are underway.
The executive said that he wants to clear the perception of morticians being involved in drug and substance abuse, and has called on youth on apply for the job in the county government.
“When you are trained to be a mortician, the use of drugs and substance abuse will not be needed as people claim all morticians must use drugs to handle the dead,” assured Mwangi
The initially General Kago mortuary had only two morticians which was affecting the service of the morgue and the residents were complaining of the same.
