The breads are said to be selling at a very low price of Sh30, compared to the normal pricing of Sh50 per loaf.

Speaking to the residents Thursday morning in the area, Witeithie police post boss Sergeant James Linguli said that the bread has been selling for three weeks now, and they are not being supplied to shops, a clear indication that the product is counterfeit.

He added that the residents have been buying the product in large quantities due to the low price, not considering they might be endangering their health status.

“The bread has been selling so fast, according to the information I got and it is not tested nor approved if you see it selling along the streets at night,” said Linguli.

Following the incident, area public health officer Flora Gakui said that there is a possibility that the product has not attained the required standards, thus selling through the back doors to avoid being scrtuinized for the quality measure.

She added that she will work closely with the Kenya Revenue Authority officers to ensure they test the standards of the product, and if the bread has been approved for human consumption.

She cautioned the residents against consuming the same, if it is not approved for human consumption to avoid any casualties.
