This comes after residents raised concerns over increased traffic and road accidents along the Thika highway.

Thika traffic commandant Benjamin Kiprono said he is concerned about the road users especially the pedestrians using the busy highway.

Kiprono who was speaking on Tuesday in Thika town during the Thika traders and County government forum said that if measures will not be put in place then majority of Thika road users will experience more accidents as opposed to previous years.

Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo, speaking at the same meeting, said that he is very committed to supporting the channelling of traffic as proposed by a section of traders and investors in the area.

The county boss said that he will fund half the project in expanding the Kenyatta Avenue in Gatitu to a dual carriage road as from next week.

“Based on the transport mode of conducting business in the county government of Kiambu, we have partnered with a section of Thika business leaders to address the problem of traffic in the Thika town,” said Kabogo.

He said that the roads once expanded will increase the number of investors in the county.

“With the expansion of the roads in the area, it will ease the transportation of investors’ goods and services in the region thus improving our economy. My government is committed to ensuring the transportation sector is fully catered for,” said Kabogo.
