Kiambu County government has been faulted for charging the placement of sign posts by the private schools on their own land instead of charging what is theirs.
Kenya Private Schools Association's Thika branch Chairperson Madam Mary Kirika has said that Kiambu government is taking a lot from the public thus causing the disagreements with its people.
“Let’s not take excessively much more than we should. We are paying even for existence instead of being proud owners of land and property in this county and its oppressive to the private sector,” Madam Kirika said.
She added that there should be license fee payment and levies but not overcharging as its happening at the moment. She called on the county assembly of Kiambu to set strategies whereby fees are paid inclusively rather than paying different licenses that you don’t understand.
“We are paying license fees, garbage fees, water conservation fees among many others and I wonder where it is the same government taking the money through different ways and personnel. Let the license fee be in one payment for easier understanding,” she added.
Kirika, who was speaking in Thika on Thursday, said that naming of school vehicles has been a challenge to them as they are being charged for the same despite having been licensed as a learning institution.
The private schools however want the county government to collect the garage for them free of charge just as it has been in other public schools.
