Kiambu Town residents have reacted to Monday's surprise meeting between Deputy President William Ruto and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo.
Kabogo visited DP Ruto at his Karen home on Monday, in a meeting that has ignited speculations that the former Governor could deputize Ruto in 2022.
According to Kiambu Town residents, the meeting between the two is a good sign ahead of the 2022 general election.
Martin Wachira, bodaboda rider in Ndumberi, said that the meeting also affirms Mt Kenya region's willingness to support DP Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.
Mr Wachira said that DP Ruto and Kabogo can make a good pair in 2022.
“Governor Kabogo is fit enough to be DP Ruto’s running mate and I suspect he (Kabogo) could be lobbying for the position,” said Wachira in an interview on Monday.
Solomon Mburu, a carpenter at Ndumberi trading centre echoed Wachira's views, noting that Kabogo has every right to visit the Deputy President.
Mburu said that Kabogo’s meeting with DP Ruto has everything to do with 2022.
“The 2022 succession politics is on and every politician is strategizing, so is William Kabogo,” he said.
However, a section of locals argued that the meeting means nothing.
Sharon Kimemia, a vegetable vendor at Ndumberi said that Kabogo’s meeting with DP Ruto is normal and should not be blown out of proportion.
“The two (DP Ruto and Kabogo) are friends and people should stop speculating on the possibility of them working together in 2022,” she said.
DP Ruto and Kabogo’s meeting on Monday surprised many even as speculations continue to emerge that the two could work together in 2022.
“I have ‘tangatangad’ Karen to see my friend the DP,” Kabogo captioned a photo of him and the DP.
Kabogo and DP Ruto had fallen out in the run-up to last year's (2017) general election.
The former governor was once quoted saying that it is not a guarantee that Mt Kenya region will support DP Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.
