A section of Kiambu residents have welcomed the government's decision to grant a 10 day amnesty to radicalised youth to denounce local Al Shabaab cells.

Speaking today at Kiambu Town , the residents say that the government's decision has come at the right time to vanguish the activities of Al Shabaab.

The nation has had  been under a series of attacks by Somalia insurgents that have left scores of innocent citizens dead and others wounded with the latest incidence of massacre of 147 students at Garissa University.

On Tuesady Cabinet Secretary for the Interior General (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery announced a 10 day amnesty where he urged the youth operating under cover of Al-Shabaab to surrender to the government.

Nkaissery said that those who would denounce radicalism would be pardoned and rehabilitated.

Elias Mwangi, a carpenter at Kiambu Town says that a new dawn has set in the fight against terrorism.

“By entering into dialogue with Al Shabaab terrorists the government has set the stage of to wipe out terrorists,” said Mwangi.

Teresa Wanyiri, a parent at Kiambu Town says that time has come for the government to use all channels to wipe out the surge of radicalism.

“The government has responsibility to mobilize all means to halt the operations of Al-Shabaab,” said Wanyiri.

The residents however warned some leaders who are not cooperating with the government to put aside their difference s and to work with the government to protect national security .

The residents also expressed hope that Al Shabaab radicals in the country will take the advantage and surrender to the government.
