Rehau Home Gas which was introduced in Kenya by the REHAU company aims at promoting the adoption and use of REHAU Home Gas in peri-urban and rural areas.

Speaking during a one-day workshop at JKUAT main campus, REHAU Head of International Business Development Mr. Ingo Von Ramdohr said that use of this gas will not only reduce respiratory diseases and eye inflammation caused by smoke but it will also encourage locals to buy cows thus enhancing production of milk which provides an extra source of income.

“The introduction of REHAU Home Gas in Kenya particularly to people living in the rural areas will reduce over-reliance on wood energy, consequently increasing Kenya’s dwindling forest cover,” said Mr Ramdohr.

He revealed that they have developed an innovative micro biogas plant that is inexpensive to acquire, efficient and portable for home cooking and apart from producing home gas, the company will also be producing organic fertiliser

“Our product is environment-friendly since no methane gas is released to the environment, and to enhance ownership, the biogas unit is made by locally available materials," he added.

The project which is currently incubated at JKUAT’s Nairobi Industrial and Technology Park as a start-up company will have a yearly output of 3000 units with one unit retailing Sh58 000
