Kiambu sub-county environmental officer has urged all the area residents to ensure that they bury the carcasses of their pets instead of dumping them in the streets or in rivers since they pose a great health hazard to the community.
Speaking on Wednesday from his office in Kiambu town, James Kaboru warned the residents against dumping the carcasses on the streets stating anyone who will be caught doing that will be arrested and prosecuted.
"This is a very serious warning and anyone who will be caught doing that will be prosecuted in a court of law leading to a jail term. I kindly urge all residents to be burying the carcasses instead of throwing them in the streets,” Kaboru said.
kaboru said that the rotting carcasses of the pets usually attract rats and also houseflies which in turn contaminates food which can lead to outbreak of diseases.
"This poses a great health hazard to most people and may lead to outbreak of very serious diseases. We should be on the forefront of preventing the outbreak of the diseases and we should do so by ensuring that all the dead animals and pets are buried instead of being thrown in the streets,” said Kaboru.
