Residents of Kiambu county have been advised to familiarise themselves with the importance of probation services and their benefits in a bid to facilitate the integration of offenders back into the society.
The Kiambu Sub-County probation officer Mrs. Magret Nyabuto said that a lot of people do not have an idea of how important probation services are and their benefits to the community. She noted that the services provide probation supervision, community service and special support services to both adult and young offenders.
"Probation is effective and all these services are aimed at stopping offenders from repeating offences in the future hence reducing the level of crimes in county," said Nyabuto.
She therefore urged the residents to give the reformed offenders a second chance and welcome them warmly as they get integrated back into the society. This is because many reformed offenders get stigmatised by the community which causes them to find it hard to fit in.
"Everyone makes mistakes and we all need a second chance; give the reformed offenders a second chance don't and avoid stigmatising them since that gives them a hard time as they attempt to fit in back to the society," said Nyabuto.
