Kiambu Sub-County residents have been advised to observe proper nutrition during this cold weather as it aids in prevention of cold and flu.
Speaking in Kiambu District Hospital Nduta Gitau, nutritionist, said common cold can be avoided if people take proper diet so as to equip their bodies with sufficient nutrients.
Gitau said the public only focuses on warm dressing but they do not focus on the type of food they eat.
“The best way to boost your immunity is by eating balanced diet,” notes Gitau.
She noted that some people keep off fruits and vegetables during the cold weather.
She pointed out on the need for people to incorporate these meals at home so that they can encourage people to take them.
Nduta also encouraged drinking of yoghurt as it has healthy bacteria that goes to the intestinal track helping in the fight against flu.
She however cautioned on exclusively intake of vitamin supplements as an alternative to real foods that provide the same, saying that the foods have wholesome nutrients that the supplements may not contain.
