Kiambu County residents have been urged to register for an upcoming paramedic training course by the Kenya Red Cross.

Kiambu disaster management officer Stephen Ng’ang’a said the course is aimed at equipping the public with basic medical knowledge to enable professional handling of emergency situations before doctors can intervene.

Ng’ang’a said the Emergency Medical Technical Paramedic (EMT-P) diploma course offered at the organisation’s training school will be the first in Kenya as previous ones have only been offered at the certificate level.

Interested people are required to fill forms downloaded from the organisation's website; www.icha.net. Online registration, he says will enable reach many people at the same time.

"People should seriously consider enrolling into the programme which starts next month to acquire useful knowledge to help in time of crisis," he urged.

He said that despite there being chances to save lives during incidences of road accidents and fire outbreaks many people are not trained, hence lives are lost as people wait for emergency response.

"Let us take advantage of this opportunity. The more equipped society is with emergency skills, the more efficient disaster management will be," he stressed.
