Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has criticised the current county budget citing discrepancy in allocation of funds for some projects.
Speaking on Wednesday in Kiambu town Wamatangi said the proposed budget needs to be revised to curb overspending on some projects of less importance to the public.
“We need to strike some balance while allocating funds to some sectors. Overspending on some projects of little importance to the taxpayer and leaving out the more important ones means the interest of the public is not considered,” said Wamatangi.
He added: “This budget should incorporate the needs of the people so that wastage of public funds can be curbed,” said Wamatangi.
He has pledged to sensitise the public about their roles in influencing the budget if the issue is not addressed by the county government and the county assembly.
He also called upon the county boss William Kabogo to initiate necessary plans to allocate more funds to key projects in the proposed county budget.
“We cannot have Sh450 million allocated for ICT only while other sectors have been underfunded. An additional Sh120 million has been allocated for the purchase of vehicles by the county government in addition to the others that were currently bought,” said Wamatangi.
He added: “We as Kiambu people cannot allow this as some key projects like education have been sidelined.”
