Kiambu County Assembly speaker Gathii Irungu has cautioned leaders against dividing locals along political and tribal lines.

Speaking to the press in Kiambu Town on Monday, Irungu said that tribal politics will cause disunity among Kenyans across the country.

The speaker accused some leaders of spearheading disunity which he said threatens development. The Kiambu speaker asked leaders to be objective and spearhead programmes that will unite Kenyans.

“It is unfortunate that some leaders want to cause disunity among the people and we will not give them chance to do that,” he said.

Irungu said that Kenyans are peace loving people and will not be allowed to be divided along political and tribal grounds.

The speaker urged leaders in the county to spearhead unity and speak in one voice. He said that leaders have the responsibility to preach unity and cohesion among the people.

The speaker said that the county will realize its development goals if leaders work together and shun petty politics.

Irungu at the same time cautioned county youths against being used to cause violence or lawlessness by some selfish politicians.

The speaker called on youths to focus on issues that will promote their development and shun selfish politicians and individuals.
