Kiambu County stakeholders meeting for the presentation of proposed draft bills on land, housing and physical planning was today marred with interruptions as those present expressed discontent on unavailability of the information on the bills prior to the meeting.
The meeting held at Thika Community hall was one of the three forums held across Kiambu County to sensitize the public on proposed draft bills concerning land issues.
Those present at the meeting complained that they had little information on the drafts and they could therefore not give their views based on scanty information since copies were not availed at the meeting.
“You should avail copies to the public so that when we give our views about the bills we will give informed opinions rather than comments based on mere PowerPoint presentations,” lamented Simon Maina the youth leader of Thika sub-county during the meeting.
He lamented that Kiambu County officials were of the habit of hurrying crucial bills through such important forums only for them to fix clandestine information into the bills and push it into the throats of the stakeholders
The Director for Physical Planning John Mbau Kiambu County told the irate mob that he had expected the public already had gotten copies of the three bills from the County Website and the presentations were only to give a brief outline of what the bills were about.
“We have availed copies of the three drafts on the county’s website and some are in the planning office for the public to access,” explained Mbau attracting further boos from the crowd.
