Kiambu Knut members held a demonstration on Monday at Kiambu Town, and vowed not to resume teaching till the government addresses their demands and warned paralyzing teaching at private schools.
Led by Kiambu Kuppet secretary general, James Kimani, the teachers insisted that the boycott over salary will continue.
“No teacher is going to class unless the government addresses our demands”, said Kimani.
He said that the government has shown no commitment in addressing their demands.
“The government has ignored our call to revive the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and for this reason, teachers will not resume their duties till it meets our demands,” said Kimani.
The protesting teachers sang songs of solidarity and vowed that no level of intimidation would scare them.
“Threats by TSC and government will not work,” said James Maina, a teacher at Ikinu Primary School, adding that dialogue is the only solution in solving the stalemate.
Kimani also sent a warning to private schools that they would disrupt learning in their schools if they cannot join them.
“We will not allow private schools to go ahead with learning when learning in public schools has stalled,” said Kimani.
He further said that unless the government moves quickly to resolve the crisis, learning would face grave consequences.
He further opposed the proposal to devolve learning saying that the situation would complicate the matter.
