Led by Kiambu West Knut branch chairman Clement Gicharu and his Kiambu East counterpart Michel Muna, the local leaders indicated that if they go on strike only a salary increment will take them back to class.

“It cannot be that teachers can’t get anything before they go to the streets,” said Gicharu.

“But because this is the only language the government seems to understand, we’re very ready.”

He went ahead to warn Education cabinet secretary Jacob Kaimenyi over alleged interference in the affairs of teachers.

“We would also like to request Education CS Jacob Kaimenyi to stop interfering with teachers and their employer TSC.”

They have noted that every time that they agree with TSC, nothing much comes out of it, thus the frequent strikes.

“TSC has a habit of taking us around in circles. This time we are not going to bow down on their pressures. We are now awaiting a word from our national secretary general, Wilson Sossion tomorrow and we will be ready to go,” Muna said.

If the teachers decide to go on strike, the forthcoming national examinations in primary and secondary will be greatly affected, considering that teachers invigilate and supervise the exams countrywide.
