A community youth rehabilitation centre will soon be built in Kiambu town to help drug addicts and alcoholics.

According to the County Youth and Sports Affairs Executive Machel Waikenda, the centre will help the many youths who have been consumed by drugs and substance abuse.

Speaking at Ruiru town on Sunday, Waikenda said that the centre will have professional counsellors to guide and provide counsel to addicts apart from providing other services.

“We have finalised plans to build a youth rehabilitation centre in Kiambu town,” he said, adding that plans to have the same in every sub county are also in place.

The executive indicated that the plan is among the many measures the county government is taking to curb drug abuse.

He said that sporting activities and other competitions are in progress observing that the aim is to keep the youth busy.

The Executive also revealed that Sh30 million has been put aside to construct a sports academy in the county.

He said that the county has elaborate plans to promote talent and sports which he observed can help fight unemployment.

Waikenda indicated that the county is committed to tackle all matters pertaining to youths, women and persons living with disabilities.
